Word Filter option added!
Figured since there was no topic for this, I may as well make one so you guys are aware:

Take a look in your profile, you may see a new "word filter" option. Cue has graciously added the feature to disable the swear word filtering, based on personal preference. The swear filter is automatically enabled by default, but disabling it will remove the censorship on most of the cuss words (specific bad words will still be blocked whether you enable this feature or not, FYI).

Sweet this will definitely appeal to parents to allow younger users to view the forums! ^_^

Spazzo 12-21-2008 04:56 PM

Well, the curse word filter used to always be enabled. This just gives the option to override it, if you see fit.

Sumakima 12-21-2008 06:02 PM

I will love you for ever and ever now, Cue.

Rob 12-21-2008 06:16 PM

Note that this does not mean that the filter isn't there anymore. Filter evasion is still a bannable offense. I'm keeping it enabled on my account for this express purpose. If I see words I shouldn't be seeing, you will get in trouble.

Kaysakado 12-21-2008 06:29 PM

Let's test it out!

Did I miss any?
EDIT: A certain racist word remains to be censored.

Starbuck 12-21-2008 06:50 PM

Hurrah, now I don't feel like I'm in a socialist dictatorship.

Autosaver 12-22-2008 12:28 AM

Whats the point, you can still get banned?

No, you get banned for evading it, so typing shit right out will not get you banned.

Kopper 12-22-2008 09:38 AM

Well, if some words are still shut out, if it's not for legal reasons... *confused* I suppose some people don't wanna see stuff regarded as racist, but I'm still a wee bit confused. Don't even know why I care.

Autosaver 12-22-2008 05:00 PM

Like Cue said, only evading gets you banned.....lets say this is evading.

Torgo 12-22-2008 05:15 PM

This is a better example that wont actually evade the filter. Lets say the word "that" is a filtered word. Evading the filter would be something like this.

Even if you leave just one letter, it would evade the filter. So either type out the entire word, or just use all asterisks.

Chaos Knux 12-22-2008 05:40 PM

One question I've had forever, what about the suffix "-ing"?

As in, "That is {CENSORED}ing hilarious!"

Sonict 12-22-2008 05:46 PM

That is still evading the curse filter.

Autosaver 12-22-2008 07:00 PM

Wouldn't it get us ban by having horrible grammar though?

Mystic 12-22-2008 08:14 PM

To go on the previous example, if the word "that" is censored, the following is acceptable:

Any character string with "that" in it.

All of the above will automatically be converted to **** by the filter, dropping any extra letters. If "ass" was censored on the message board, "assassin" would be converted to "***", ignoring all the other letters in the word.

The following is NOT acceptable:

Any incomplete character string with multiple letters that would allow the word to be readable with the filter on.

The rules on the curse filter don't change one bit here. The only difference is that if you'd like, you can turn the filter off. Type the full word or type nothing at all.

lol, the same thing happened to me when I first typed "snigger." (lol this has one of the words censored even with censoring off) Going with that example, are we allowed to evade the curse filter for a word like assassin so it won't get auto-censored?

Cue 12-22-2008 08:25 PM

There aren't any words that contain the term for a female dog, the URL to a shitty site or a racist insult, as far as I know, so there's no need to.

It's in the post you were just replying to. The word s-n-i-g-g-e-rs, meaning to laugh.

In addition, there are other words that are still censored for those with censoring on.
