What in the world is SRB2 Workshop?

i dont think there should be an alternate website for banned users, they got banned because they were doing something wrong.
its like, say... bypassing the system. but less worse because this is the internet, and because this site has a decent population.
the skybase can be an alternative for people who want to upload 2.1 mods (i guess/think so...) and porting 2.1 mods to 2.2 is kind of not a bad thing, its like preservation, but at the same time its useless to portleg since you can just download the version that the mod is compatable with, i think the workshop could be a great alternative for portlegs. but a bad alternative overall, there is a message board for everyone, people left to skybase or workshop due to the problems with the strict rules at the time, the newer message boards can be a little useless now, sure, due to the strict rules be let go a little bit, so going to other message boards are a stupid idea, especially because you dont have to be SO impatient about your ban.

oh yeah btw if you dont wanna read that paragraph, im saying, other message boards bad, mb.srb2.org good.

nah, i'd say all MB's are good, they atleast put really good effort into their sites.
also, sometimes they would just not accept the appeals

Who actually remembers skybase in the SRB2 community
oh yeah and there's also wadbase... but something happened to them

I'd have to disagree, most alt message boards don't have any rules whatsoever, meaning that basically anything that anyone does can get in, even if it has 0 original content. The sky base is the expectation to this rule, but stealing from other creators is really something that doesn't happen here but happens everywhere else.

But even though these poor man message boards exist, they have the right to exist, you should be free to do what you want online, and if these people want to use things that aren't the message board to upload mods, I'd say its ok.

I still wonder why this thread is up however, considering that no one is even talking about the main topic, instead everyone's talking about how good or bad the workshop is, that wasn't the intention.

This is an incredibly stupid and divisive thing to say and it gets us no closer to solving the underlying problems that got us to this point in the first place.

i mean, we already covered that page 1-2

for me the srb2 workshop is simply a site for bad addons...many bad and few salvageable...I registered to see what's up and left that account and it wasn't until I saw this that I remembered the page...(to be of Russian origin approaches the srb2 message board)

It's true that we shouldn't dismiss all other forums automatically, but that ship has long sailed for the particular forum of relevance.

And that's exactly the problem.
It's stupid to treat the SRB2WS as anything other than an alternative platform for SRB2 mods.
The more this continues to be treated like a taboo subject, the more tensions between the two sites will rise.

When the other platform stops doing taboo things, we will stop treating it as a taboo topic. Until then, they can remain self-isolated in their own corner, away from the rest of the community.

Don't taunt banned users.
I hope Bubleblun (or how the heck you say it) is enjoying the ban sentence (and the Workshop).

honestly, it's just an alternate MB, its not even that bad, sometimes underrated.
people just wanna make fun of alternate forums just because they do stuff that the original forums (that inspired the alternate ones) is against.
it's just stupid that people hate on it for having only one thing, it's just an alternate message board but unique in a way.

“People wanna make fun of it because they do something they find morally reprehensible.”

I don’t see how this logic works. A thing does something bad, and people criticize that thing for it. How is that unjustified?

Sounds more to me like you don’t think addon theft is bad and you’re mad that other people do.

I've mostly ignored the workshop because aside from me not really interacting with much of the SRB2 community as much as I really used to anymore, anyone who wants to submit a serious, high-effort mod is going to do so on the official message board, which has by far the largest userbase. I've yet to see or hear of any substantial mod from the workshop that I would genuinely be interested in downloading.

i'm not saying that, my point is just saying people are hating on the WS just because of that one thing.
i would honestly feel the same and be kinda mad, but at the same time, i would understand that they wanna port it. what if the owners who create the mods can't return them (and no, not banned creators, just creators who vanished off of the MB)
i'd take ports as a compliment (if i ever make a mod, prob open assets) because they like my mod so much that they wanna bring it to another version.

Yes, because that one thing is pretty bad. :P

You are generally allowed to port content from creators who vanished so long as there was an honest and serious attempt made to contact them (unless they asked for no maintenance, which is a new feature that the Workshop pre-dates). However, the Workshop encourages and allows the theft and modification of mods from creators who are still active and don't want edits made to their mods. This includes mods that work on the current version.

By your own admission, you have never made a mod, so why do you think you know how all modders should react to their directly stated wishes being directly ignored with unauthorized ports? Some modders are cool with ports and edits, hence why said edits can be uploaded here. The Workshop allows ports that go against the expressed wishes of modders though.

Your logic is no different from people who say "Take it as a compliment!" to artists who have their art stolen and reuploaded. No, most of us would quite like to be treated with respect for the things we've made, thanks.

ok, heres a line from ssntails:
"I don't see why people can't portleg old stuff. It's just a fan game"
"I'm stealing Sega's stuff but don't steal mine kthx"
portlegs may be stealing, but its just because older mods aren't compatible due to 2.2 releasing.

Unauthorized ports and edits have long been looked down upon by the community, it's part of why Gamebanana was so disliked. It's not new. What happened was essentially:

Modders: "We don't want our mods edited without permission."
Workshop: "We just made a space to specifically do that."
Modders: "We don't like that."
Workshop: "That's unfair! Why are you all raising tensions and causing problems. :("

The Workshop directly did something that's long been disliked and is now complaining about being criticized for it. Trying to blame us for this current state of affairs is absurd; the majority of the community supports the modders on this and will continue to do so.

When the Workshop brings its standards up to snuff with the rest of the community (or dies, TBH I don't know which one will transpire first), this drama will subside. But we're not the instigators of the conflict here, so the attempts to blame us fall short of conveying reality.

ok, heres a line from ssntails:

SSNTails saying something doesn't make it any more true or false. That's an Appeal to Authority fallacy, any argument relying upon it is dead in the water and should be disregarded. Theft is theft, don't defend it.

but why the hell is there a portleg rule. i understand theft, but copyright over a fangame that's not even official, and that used multiple sonic characters.
"I'm stealing Sega's stuff but don't steal mine kthx" is literally how i can describe the law here.
also, it's just an alternate forum. this drama is all really stupid over another website.
