thats the problem, it doesn't show up. I used a psp as a joystick, it showed up but not the xbox controller

I have an xbox360 controller and the cord that plugs in to the computer. How do i use it as a joystick? Because i downloaded different drivers from the microsoft site, it still won't come up or work. I googled it and found too many different ways and most didn't seem to work. ps:trying to play...
