I think it was back when I would buy anything with Sonic on it, and I spent my days searching the internet for Sonic fangames. I don't really remember. All I do remember is that it was an older version with the spinning spike ball eggman instead of the current final boss.

Actually they can. If someone is using something copywrited by them they can take it to court whether or not it's making money. It's just that big companies tend not to because it takes time and fangames usually aren't going to affect sales much.

That doesn't change the fact that it looks like it's shooting fire. I distinctly remember Sonic Adventure 2 giving him fire boots. I played it just yesterday (I haven't actually owned it until recently), and I remember fire shooting from his boots. Though it could've been changed since then.

Indeed this. It is quite annoying to attempt to join a server, only to find there are hundreds of wads I need to download, causing the game to crash and forcing me to open it again. Speaking of which, does the game really have to crash when that happens? Couldn't it just be an ingame error...

I have my own question, so I figured I'd use this thread instead of making a new one just to avoid clutter. How do I take picture files out of the wads or put them in? Maybe I'm somehow skipping over it, or not searching properly, but I can't find any information on this.

Not much. I was making a retexture for Minecraft, but I got bored of that. At the moment I'm attempting to figure out how to do certain things with WADs to attempt a Shadow wad (I expect there are many already), and a custom character. The design of which I have not decided yet.
