To me, 7=%70=C=Average.

I certainly wouldn't call an "F" average.

Unless we've been doing the 5=Average thing this whole time, when I coulda SWORN someone said it was a 7=Average deal.
Where have you been, d00d? The contest has always acted on a 5-average rating system.

Look what I got for you. These are the results, according to my calculations. Since it might take some time until FF gets to post the official results, take this in the meantime.
....I can't believe the silly rocket map tied with RedEchidna's entry. :(

Where is FuriousFox, anyway. I'm the like, the only one who's losing valuable days of golden title-ness. ;_;

So, after getting to play some contest games with a laptop, I can finally share my opinions on the maps :>

MATCH

Secluded Woodland - no/testing
I actually thought this map could stand a decent chance, and not end up with the below-7-average it has at the moment. It probably would have won anyways, were it not for Neo's awesome map. I probably should've tested it, but then again, sucky pc :(

Random Valley - 3/10
Looked nice (aside from the 'under the river' area with the explosion panel), obviously has effort put into it, but it's just way too damn huge. All the rooms also look alike, so it's almost impossible to tell where you are, let alone find another player.

Cold Canyon - 4/10
For some reason, this reminded me of a poor man's Crystalline Caves (even though that map sucks now olol), with some stupid ideas like the corkscrew, the SRM platform-thingy and the pit around the stairs with the Grenade Ring. Particularly the latter can get annoying under lag.

Sparkling City - 9/10
This map is simply amazing, probably the best custom match map I have seen so far. The item layout was well-crafted, the layout was basically perfect, not too small and not too large, and the use of little details within each area was a brilliant idea. Only problem are the large buildings (the large walls) with their lack of proper textures, but that isn't your fault. I do think you could have added some doors and windows, but otherwise this is a flawless map.

Midnight Park - 4/10
Wow, this is surprisingly boring. Okay, it looked decent, but the layout is just mostly flat ground with a couple of trees that are all perfectly identical. Weapon layout is also decent, although you should have swapped Scatter with Grenade, I dunno.

Rocky Mesa - 1/10
I was going to give criticism, but then I saw that this map was made by Brawl, so I decided not to :>

CTF

Slime Stronghold - 5/10
I found this map completely average, although with a solid layout and decent item placement. Then again, the elemental shield-only paths and the conveyor belts in the dark are rather dumb, so the positive and the negative things cancel out each other.

Disrepaired Sanctuary - 1/10
When I explored the maps on my own before playing netgames, I noticed this map already lagged when I explored it on my own. Combine this with the layout basically being a giant death pit with platforms and you have a recipe for disaster.

Spaceport Warfare - bugs/galore
Well damnit. This map turned out to be not as good as we hoped it to be. Blame the elevator faults on KOTE by the way, they were entirely his work *runs* But I can't really blame him, he basically made the entire map, aside from the center.

Flood Forest - 1/10
A below-average map that got all it's redeeming qualities destroyed by disastrous item placement. Nuff said.

CIRCUIT

Azure Night - 2/10
Boooooring, for Sonic at least.

Super Sonic Speedway - 1/10
Rather unplayable, for a myriad of reasons. The only point is for some rather creative ideas.

Cyan Caves - 5/10
Kind of nice visuals, bit standard though, not as great as your other rush-job race maps.

Aqua Palace - 4/10
Really standard race map, still one of the better maps here.

Sky Cliffs - 4/10
Other than the devillish first jump, rather average map.

VARIOUS COMMENTS
Wow, this contest is rather mediocre. There are only two above-average maps, but those are actually increndibly great.
Also, lol @ race being made up entirely of rush jobs

I originally intended to line the walls around the main square with various different doors and awnings like the center building, but then I thought that would make the level look too busy, and actualy detract from level design. In retrospect, I was probably right.

I would not be against creating a different texture set to introduce windows and maybe even some doors to the building sides, though.

Now that you voted, it's 7.25. You know, dropped scores help a lot when your lowest score is a 4 and the next-worst is a 6. Also, I loved how you secured your golden usertitle simply by voting on SSZ. I'm not implying that you did that on purpose, but it's a kinda funny coincidence.

Now watch RedEchidna lowering his score on SWZ until he wins again o.o

Secluded Woodland Zone - Spherallic
Rating - 7/10
Notes -
Nice and big, yet not too big. Looked nice, and played well.

Random Valley Zone - nightmare cenz
Rating - 5/10
Notes -
While this map is WAY too large for match, it plays quite well in tag/H&S. Next time, try to make it a bit smaller, though.

Cold Canyon Zone - RedEchidna
Rating - 5/10
Notes -
Average. Though, that death pit near the gernade was evil.

Sparkling City Zone - Neo Chaotikal
Rating - 8/10
Notes -
EPIC 1-UP BUILDING IS EPIC.
Yeah, this was awesome. Detail, layout and item placement was great.

Midnight Park Zone - KO.T.E
Rating - 6/10
Notes -
Alot of average maps this time. This map was decent, though it was too flat.

Rocky Mesa Zone - Brawl
Rating - 1/10
Notes -
I thought we was past random boxes placed onto maps.

~~{CTF}~~

Slime Stronghold Zone - RedEchidna
Rating - 6/10

The bases are way too cramped. I also don't remember any alt paths other than the elemental ones.

Disrepaired Sanctuary Zone - Mach
Rating - NA

Don't remember playing this one.

Spaceport Warfare Zone - KO.T.E & Spherallic
Rating - 7/10

Great map, though the elevators need help. You know this, though.

Flood Forest Zone - glaber

Don't remember playing this one, either.

Single Player:
Golden Palace Zone by Internet Explorer - 7/10
Great level, nice gimmicks and detail in the level. But it needs more paths to take, and a better boss song.

Emerald Lake Zone, Act 1 by glaber - 3/10
Attack of the invisible waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalls!
Anyways, I like the motobugs(rabbits), but that's about it since the level was boring.

Lava Reef Zone by WEREHOG - 3/10
Eh, it was boring and I got lost the first few times I played it. That and you know something is wrong when Tails and Knuckles can take the "Sonic only path".

Aqua Relic Zone by furythehog - 5/10
Eh, don't really know what to say about this one, but it's okay none the less.

Sapphire Coast Zone, Act 1 by Blade - 1/10 er, 9/10
Nice level, love the enemies and the secret. But I think the textures could use some work, along with the sky. Also, animate that thar water texture. :<

Well, now that the forum downtime is over, we can finally get back to the contest.

I'll upload the Excel sheet in a bit. I recently got a new laptop that apparently doesn't have Microsoft Office on it, so I'm having to figure out how to get everything formatted properly in Open Office Calc.

Uh FuriousFox, I don't know what went wrong, but some of these calculations are wrong. Here's what I got (double-checked a million times):

I hope you can decipher my crude calculation method.

Out of curiousity, why were Kyasarin's votes counted? He almost got an infraction for his voting post, so I thought his scores would be discouraged.

I'll upload the spreadsheet as soon as the FTP starts working, but I'm thinking that maybe you counted 1 or 2 guys' votes twice. I noticed while tallying the votes that some people posted votes and then went back and updated them in later posts (not bothering to edit the original post).

EDIT: Well, I did find a mistake I made while recording Fawfulfan's votes. I had accidentally given Sapphire Coast a 4 while Emerald Lake got an 8 (Which is backwards from what the votes actually were). The problem has been fixed in the spreadsheet, which gets my averages for those two maps matching yours, but I still haven't found why you have Sparkling City rated 0.13 higher than mine. I'll keep looking.

EDIT2: I made a typo in KO.T.E's vote for Sparkling City Zone, giving it a 7 instead of an 8. This has been fixed and our averages now match. Hopefully nothing else is wrong now.

Oh, I think I know how you did it(I'll make with Emerald lake Zone):

The sum of the votes is 122, and the amount of votes is 30.

122 : 30 = 4,0666666666666666666666666666667

And rounding it, the result is 4.1 . =P

As my post above says, I have found the errors in my records and have updated them. No change in terms of winners, though a few scores were changed.

I personally happen to think that all the winning entries were fantastic and completely deserving of the honor. I can't remember the last time an OLDC so thoroughly satisfied me. I suppose that gameplay was generally average, but man, there were some utterly sublime visuals, including in some maps that didn't win. I can't wait to see what the next contest has to offer.
